Ranch House Inn/China Ranch
I’ve never stayed there but have seen the place during a tour of the ranch. Looks very quiet and secluded. I’d try it. It looks just as nice as any desert accommodations I’ve seen and stayed in, and a helluva lot better than anywhere else in Tecopa or Shoshone. I’m not sure if it’s a B&B.
I think the little inn/house is built across from the site where the Fairbanks/Brown/Modine family home was before it burned down. Apparently, little Ralph Modine was in the basement playing with matches and couldn’t get out as the flames were between him and the door. Ralph was the first to be buried in the little cemetery in Shoshone. He wasn’t quite 4 years old. The house was torn down completley later on- Tragic.
Date bread and shakes are excellent, however be prepared for the extra blast of sugar and might want to eat them after the drive instead of just before, if you know what I mean…

If you stay let us know how it went.
Here’s some more misc. stuff;
Dad Fairbanks founded Shoshone

Ralph Modine was Fairbanks’ grandson

Charles Brown was Dad’s son-in-law, marrying Stella his daughter. He developed the town after Dad sold it to him leaving to develop Baker.

China Ranch came into the Fairbanks’ family and was also sold to Brown. Both Shoshone and China Ranch are still owned by the Brown Family (Sorrells owns Shoshone).
& The Shoshone Museum was originally a building in Greenwater, a copper mining/scam town in the Greenwater Valley DVNP.

Apologies if you knew all this already.
