Mining History & Other updates…

Filed under: Updates, Ghost Towns & Gold Mines — DesertGazette @ 12:39 am

I’ve been working in bits and pieces on the Mining History section of MojaveDesert.NET

I’m very happy to find a more realistic history of what is now the San Bernardino County park of Calico Ghost Town. Wandering through the town now-days separating what is/was can be a bit tedious.  The streets are all paved and the place is, I suppose, as Walter Knott intended, a tourist attraction in the truest sense of the word. I’m looking forward to exploring some of the canyons and mines beyond the town in the coming months. I’ll also be adding histories of select mines and camps throughtout the Mojave in the coming weeks/months.

A Walk Through Time has been updated to correct a few errors I made in transcription. This tour was originally created by Bennie Troxel, renowned Death Valley Geologist and is on display at the Shoshone Museum in Shoshone California.

I’m not sure I posted the Golden Canyon geology tour. I know I mentioned having hiked up there, but if I hadn’t put in a link before; here it is now.

Also, from a previous trip to Death Valley last spring, the Moorehouse Mine.

Sorry about the sloppy update notes. I recently upgraded/updated things around the office here and feel a bit like I’m working through a filter or plastic or something; really fast.
