Bird Throwing for Fun

Filed under: Wildlife, Photography — DesertGazette @ 10:07 am

I’m continually impressed by the wildlife photos of Raymond J. Barlow. Inspired in fact; To the point where I thought, that maybe if I could do even 1/10 of that good I could use the shots I took on my web site.

Not so- in any way.

So I spent a few hours trying to capture some birds in flight. My best looked horrible. The results of my attempts gave me a different perspective though. It would be easier for me to actually ‘capture’ the birds, maybe with a net or a box or a worm or something- And it was! So I captured a bunch. Now, what to do with them? I’d have my assistant throw them and I’d get shots of them in flight.

Here are the results of my day.

1. This was the first little guy that got thrown. Not very hard, so it was more like a paper airplane gliding.

2. This one was throw a bit harder, and seemed to enjoy the free ride. Kind of a lawn dart flight pattern.

3.  Another glider.

4.  Here we tried to see how high one of these creatures could be thrown.

5.  To mix it up, this one was tossed tail-first. He/she didn’t fly very far.

6.  These quail seemed to be having a nice morning brunch. So what do I do?

7.  Throw a bird at ‘em.

8.  Missed. This one just skulked away with a broken heart.

9.  This one was thrown the furthest out of the whole day.

10. And this one was thrown the hardest.

11. This plump little guy had the best spiral.

Very, very, relaxing- To us all, I think. The birds seemed to like it.

All in all, it was a fantastic day to be out in nature, on God’s green Earth another day, all alive, and vibrant and stuff. Another great thing is that no birds were harmed or injured in any way during the filming of this errant adventure. Most identifications withheld pending statutes of limitations.
